Individual Reflections - My Journey to became a better learner

Hi everyone! How's it going? 😃

Today I want to share with you about my reading also my listening journey this semester. Like I said before, I like to read. But I often read in Indonesian more than English. As well as listening. Through this class (integrated communicative course), I began to retrain my reading and listening skills. 

At the beginning of the semester, we were introduced to er-central to train our skills to improve. I felt interested that knowing this other platform to improve my reading also listening. So I started reading and listening at er-central although not diligently every day. I think it's because can't manage my own time, and that's a shame. But besides improving my skills, I also increase my knowledge while reading er-central. 

My reading and listening journey at the end of the semester improved quite a bite, as I pushed myself to raise my reading and listening level at er-central. Besides that, I also tried to adjust to using English subtitles when viewing something on youtube. Sometimes I do listening some English podcasts on Spotify to improve my skills. Recently I also found a site to download ebooks, so I can read them later (of course, it's all in English). Here's the link if you're interested!

After this course, I think I'll still read graded readers or other fiction books. Because I'm happy if my skills continue to grow, besides that I also want to finish some ebooks that I haven't finished reading. It's called Into the Magic Shop by James R. Doty, MD. An Interview with Megan and Ben!

Hi everyone! How's it going? 😃

Welcome to my other project! So for today, I want to tell you about a story I have read. The title of the story is The Last Unicorn and the author of this story is Gammack J. E. The genre of The Last Unicorn is fantasy. The length of the story is 4616. So if you have interested in this story, here's the link! 

Basically, this story is about Megan's adventure in her Uncle's house named Uncle Fraser. Megan, who initially didn't want to go there because she hated the countryside, instead found magic there. She is meeting new people also gets the warmth there. She didn't feel lonely anymore. 

Based on this story, I did an interview with my partner Betty for this project. I pretended to be Megan and Betty was interviewing me. Here's the link to the video interview, I hope you enjoy it!

When we make the video, I was very nervous at the time. So we should retake the video many times! But we also laugh together because sometimes there was an awkward moment between us, haha. But this project was so fun although we are still faced to face online.

SKETCH IT!

Hi everyone! How's it going? 😊

So for today, I want to show you a picture made from a scene from a story I read. My hand-drawing is not very good actually. So for this time, I used digital drawing for my picture. Today's story is called The Haunted Doll's House and the author of this story is Bill Bowler. The length of the story is 2634. Here's the link if you want to read it!

Basically, The Haunted Doll's House is a story about Mr. Dillet after buying the dollhouse in Mr. Chittenden's store. At first, Mr. Dillet was happy because he bought a dollhouse in good condition at a low price. But suddenly, when he sleeps and wakes up in the middle of the night, something happened with the dollhouse.

That is the digital drawing of my favorite scene. Where's Mr. Dillet wakes up at the midnight and sees his dollhouse is weird. Oh! Before it, there's the disclaimer, which contains a little bit of a spoiler. By the way, I'll continue it. Mr. Dillet was surprised when he saw doll figures inside the doll were moving around as if to tell him about something. Of course, even though he was scared, but he kept watching to find out what the doll figures meant.

So that is for today, this story is quite interested for me to read it! I think this story is more like a short version of the original series. The Perfect Song #2

Hi everyone! How's it going? 😄

I hope you guys are not bored yet because I'll choose another song for my individual report today. Of course, it's with other different stories. The title of today's story is called Hercules.

I have 2 choices, one is reading or listening story. I chose the listening story one, The myth of Hercules: 12 labors in 8-bits by TED-ed from youtube. The length of the story is 7:50 minutes.  Here's the link to watch Hercules's adventure. 

The story of Hercules is quite sad where he has to suffer because at first, it was not his fault, but he has to atone for his twelve years to God. He should finish the twelve tasks that given by Eurystheus, her cousin. Because of his strength and persistence, Hercules was able to complete his task on time. 

I think these lyrics from the song called When I Was Your Man by Bruno Mars can represent the tragic story about Hercules and her beloved wife. Here's the link to listen to the song!

I chose this song and those lyrics are because of how sad Hercules should unknowingly lose his wife and his son. But after Hercules- the strongest man in the world can finish his twelve tasks and God forgive his crime, I realize about his persistence was so strong as his strength! 

So it's my individual report for today, I enjoy both Hercules's stories. It's interesting how Hercules survives with his strength to make his amends. I'll end my blog today and have a nice day everyone! 🌞

The Perfect Song

Hi everyone! How's it going? 😆

So for today, I wanna choose a song that represents my listening and reading stories. I should choose the best song, so it can be suitable for the stories. Anyway, let's see what my listening and reading stories are!

The first is a listening story. It's called Coraline. Coraline is a stop-motion with the genre of the film is a dark fantasy. The main character from this movie is Coraline itself. Produced by Laika Pandemonium Films, the duration of this film is 100 minutes. Here's the link to see how creepy it is!

Coraline and her family moved to their new apartment named are the Pink Palace Apartment. Someday, when she fell asleep, a mouse wakes Coraline up and brings her to the small door, while leads to a parallel universe.

A suitable song for Coraline is a song from Edith Whiskers. The title of the song is Home. Here's the link to the song, enjoy it!

The reason I chose this song was because of Coraline's adventures in parallel worlds. Where she almost got lost because she was lulled by the beauty and fun of the parallel world. Different from the real world.

Let's move on to the second story! It's a reading story from Aesop. The title of the story is the North Wind and the Sun. The length of the story is 213. Here's the link if you want to read it!

Basically, this story was about the competitive advantage between the North Wind and the Sun. They competed to show off the strength of the stronger of the two. In the end, one of them won.

I think this song is not suitable for kids, but as you can see in the lyrics, the wind makes someone lazy and doesn't want to do anything sometimes. On the other hand, sometimes the sun also emits light making us hot. The message is that they have different advantages, just like us. But if it is used to compete positively, it will have a positive impact as well.

Bookmarks with Quotations

 Hi everyone! How's it going? 😄

Welcome to my second project! Today's project is kinda exciting for me because I make bookmarks using my creativity. Inside the bookmarks is a quote from the characters from reading and listening story that I already pick. 

The first is a listening story. It's a movie from Disney, the title of the movie Toy Story. For today, I pick the side character named is Buzz Lightyear which is Andy's toy. The duration of this movie is 81 minutes. Here's the link if you wanna watch the movie and enjoy the adventure!

So basically, this movie tells us about Andy's toy. They can live when nobody's around them. Buzz is Andy's new toy and some of Andy's old toys get jealous because Andy always plays with Buzz, his new toy.

Now, who doesn't know this quotation? because this is quite famous. It's Buzz Lightyear's catchphrase when you push his button on his back. The reason I choose this quotation is that Buzz wants to tell us to look at all possibilities without limits. I think this quote can mean that it is full of hope for us too.

Okay everyone, let's move on to the second story! It's a reading story called After the Earthquake by James Courage. The level of this story is A2 elementary and it has 2951 words in it. Here's the link to read the story.

So for the name of the main character from this story is Walter Blakiston. Blakiston's family lives in New Zealand. One night, an earthquake happened when they are fall asleep. After that happened, one of their neighbors, Mrs. Duncaster has died. Walter and his mom go to visit her house to check Annie who is Mrs. Duncaster's, daughter.

This quotation is said by Walter Blakiston. Walter says that after Annie jumped up to reach the Magnolia branches, to give it for Mrs. Blakiston. The reason why I choose this quote is that this quote relates to us when we hear something good and it can make us jump because we are really happy to hear that. But on the other hand, if we hear bad things, then we will immediately be shocked and even fall down.

Let Me Write a Poem About You

Hi everyone! How's it going? 😁

So for today, I wanna write a poem for a character that I have read and listen to. Which is the first time I make a poem for a story's character. It looks fun! 

The first is a listening story. For the listening story, I choose a Disney movie again called Tangled. The duration of this movie is 100 minutes, I think. Let's meet the main character from the movie! She is a Disney version princess named Rapunzel. She is a girl who has long hair. She has the adventure to find her parents. I like her because she is a cheerful person, and she's always curious about the world out there.

Let's move on to the second story, anyway it's a reading story. The title name is Ananse and the pot of wisdom. The length of the word is 247. This tale is original from Ghana, West Africa. Ananse is an antagonist spider, but he is the main character of this story. I like this story because the ending is a happy ending caused by Ananse's accident.

GIFTS

Hi everyone! How's it going? 😆

Today I wanna share with you my first project. Imagine if you get gifts from someone, of course, you will feel happy. So today I'll give a gift to my favorite character. 

First, let's meet my favorite character in the listening text, it's a movie from Disney and the movie called  Brave. The main character from this movie is Princess Merida. She is different from the other princess, who that she likes archery more than knitting or baking bread like the other princesses.

So for Princess Merida, I want to give her a comb. I mean look at her hair, is it messy right?😅 I hope that by letting her comb, she will diligently comb her hair, haha. Okay, now let's move on to my second favorite character. It's a reading story called Puss in Boots. It's a tale from France, and I don't know the original author for this story, but I enjoyed it while I read this story.

I like the character, The Cat so much. I think he is so cute when wearing that boots. He's a smart cat because he helps his master until the master was rich and becomes a king. So for him, I want to give him clothes maybe. Because it funny when I look at him just wear boots. It keeps his body still warm and looks cool with it. Oh, maybe I should give him a sword. So, it makes him so styles and also he can protect his master from danger.

SUIT UP!

Hi everyone! 👋 How's it going?

Welcome to my third blog! Today's activity is to share my favorite fiction stories. Sometimes I'm curious about how if being a character in fiction stories. Do you think so too? Looking at the interesting storyline, it must be a lot of fun. Imagine that we can be the main character in that story. Anyway, I have two fiction stories that I want to share with you. 

The first fiction story is called Enola Holmes by Nancy Springer. As you can see from the cover of the poster movie, there's a lot of characters, right? But my fav character is Enola, the main character of the movie. I'll be the main character from now, let's begin!

I'm the youngest sibling in the famous Holmes family. I just lived with my mother because my father died when I was a child. My mother, Eudoria teach me a lot of things. So I can grow up and be encouraged to be strong-willed and to think independently.

On my sixteenth birthday, my mother was disappeared! I was so panic! Fortunately, she left my birthday gift. After that, I met my two famous brothers at the station, Mycroft and Sherlock. You know what? They don't recognize me at first! Yes, maybe we don't meet up for a long time. Mycroft finds me troublesome and wants to send me away to finishing school by the stern Miss Harrison. Of course, I rejected that! At night, I opened my birthday gifts from my mother. There are some clues and a secret message! The clue refers to my mother's room and the next day my adventure will begin.

I should go to London because the clue refers to there. On the train, I find a travel bag that was shaken and Viscount Tewkesbury hide offers that. I warn a man wants to kill him and long story short, we managed to escape by jumping off the train. We have a long journey together until we part aways in London. I still continue my adventure, but when I started having some clue, Mycroft caught me at the Montel that I was sleeping there. 

He's sent me to Miss Harrison's school. But fortunately, Tewkesbury help me to run away from there! We use Miss Harrison's steam-engined car for escape. At first, we wanted to go to London. But I change that to go to Tewkesbury's home and help him to clean his problem. 

Before that, I always mention my clue to my mother. Long story short, I can meet with my mother. She suddenly came into my room, I cried and hugged her at the same time. She told me that I can't go with her anymore. But I believed that I can meet her again one day. Now after I get freedom, I became a detective same as my brother, Sherlock.

A lot of parts of my adventure that I like. But I like when I and Tewkesbury ran out with Miss Harrison's steam-engined car. I think it because that was my first experience drive into it! And it was fun tho actually, haha.

I think that's enough, so let's move on to my reading stories! It's called The Three Little Pigs by Joseph Jacobs. I'll be the wisest little pig from now, which is my favorite character of this story.

Well, nice to meet y'all! I'm the wisest little pig or people know me as the third little pig. I and my siblings now left our parents to see the world. After play and having fun, the weather slowly changes. Of course, we need to build a house to keep our self safe.

My first sibling is the laziest little pig! He built a house with a straw hut. Yeah, I already said to him that was too fragile. But he refused to listen. He just wants to play around, and then we don't know that suddenly there's a wolf came to his house. The wolf blew his home and it fell down to the ground.

My other sibling, the second little pig built a house too! He built a house with a wooden. It seems it looks safe, but then again not! The wolf still can blow his house messing around. I actually know it, because I ended up building a sturdy house and it was definitely safe. The wolf tried to blow my house, but because it's made from brick. 

The wolf has a lot of tricks to make my house messing around. He also climbs up into my chimney, but I quickly light the fire. So he ran and screaming in pain because his tail was burning by the fire. The wolf never bothered us again.

I like when we can go out and left our parent to see the world. If only my siblings would listen to me. That would be much better. But it's kinda fun because we know what the best for us and then I have some new experiences with my siblings.

I think reflection and sharing this time is quite exciting because I became the main character! It's quite long too, right?

My Emoji Stories

Hi everyone! it's me again hehe 🙌

Today I wanna share with you about my late activities to improve my reading and listening skills. So lately, I read some texts in er-central. That contains fiction and non-fiction stories to improve my reading and listening skills. A lot of interesting stories there. I found two stories that I think were so interesting to read or listening to it. 

Tittle of the first text is called Mental Health by ChrisCole. It's actually a non-fiction story because the content of the text tells about mental health. I don't know why some people don't like to talk about it, but I personally like to talk about mental health! 

Oh anyway, this text level is 8.90 which is quite hard to read, but easy to understand. With that level, I was able to finish it for approximately 4 minutes with a total of 489 words. After I read all of the text, this emoji 😆 following the content of the text where there is a story about a lonely cloud, his name is Colin.

Let's move on to the second text! The title is called Tokyo by ELLLO. I read and listen to the story about Tara's experience life in Tokyo. She's wanna stay there a bit longer because she likes looking at a Japanese boy! Hahaha. Because it's about her experience, so this story is non-fiction.

The second text level is  8.20. I think it's easy and enjoyable when I listening to it. When I listen to this text, it only takes one minute because of the word there 135 words. So I can finish it quickly. I was thinking about what emoji's fits with the story. And I think this emoji 😂 was fit with that story because of how funny Tara's reason wanna stay a bit longer in Tokyo.

English and Me

Hi everyone!👋

It's been a while I don't update my blog. Is anything different here? Yup, now I used English as well because I'm an English college student. Anyway, this is my first blog in college. So as you can see from the title, I'm gonna tell you about my English learning journey.

Let's throwback to when I was a child. My father always brings me to the local library after school. I was so happy because I like reading a book! Of course, I was reading children's storybooks there and I had my favorite English storybook. It's called Franklin the Turtle. Since then, I've loved learning a foreign language, including English.

As time goes by in learning English, I gained a lot of knowledge. Among them, English has several skills that I have to master. The English language skill that I think is very easy is reading. Because the beginning of my interest in English began and I enjoyed it.  In contrast, the ability that I think is still a challenge is the ability to speak English. And by majoring in English education, I hope to be able to float my skills in English.

Of course, I have to hone my English skills a lot outside of course hours to get maximum results. What have I done? Well, I downloaded a language learning app on my phone. The app is called Memrise. I know it's unpaid, haha. But this app helped me a lot to add new vocabulary.
